Montana Medicaid is a state administered insurance program that offers health coverage to low-income adults, children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals living with disabilities. If you are enrolled in a qualifying Montana Healthcare Program, you may be eligible to receive low-cost or free incontinence supplies.

Does Montana Medicaid cover incontinence supplies?

Yes, Montana Medicaid will pay for incontinence supplies when prescribed by a physician for use in chronic pathologic conditions that cause incontinence. These medically necessary items include diapers, underpads, liners, and shields. 

Montana Medicaid  limits the number of incontinence products distributed to covered individuals: 

  • Disposable diapers are limited to 180 diapers per month.
  • Disposable underpads and liners/shields are limited to 240 per month.
  • Reusable diapers, underpads, liner/shields are limited to 36 units each per year (3 per month).

What are the requirements to receive incontinence supplies from Montana Medicaid?

Montana Medicaid covers incontinence supplies that are medically necessary to treat a patient’s condition. In order to receive incontinence supplies from MT Medicaid, you must have the following:

  • A medical diagnosis that requires incontinence supplies 
  • A signed prescription listing medically necessary items
  • Amount of incontinence supplies needed to treat condition

Children over 3 years old may be eligible to receive incontinence supplies. Montana Medicaid will not cover incontinence supplies for members residing in a long-term care or nursing facility. Pre-approval may be required by Montana Medicaid to dispense incontinence products.
