Yes, Arizona Medicaid covers incontinence products to eligible individuals when prescribed by a physician for use in chronic pathologic conditions that cause incontinence to the insured individual. These medically necessary items include incontinence briefs such as adult diapers and pull-ups.

What are the requirements to receive incontinence supplies from Arizona Medicaid?

Arizona Medicaid covers incontinence supplies that are medically necessary to treat the patient’s condition. In order to receive incontinence supplies from AZ Medicaid, you must have the following:

  • A medical diagnosis that requires incontinence supplies
  • A prescription from your doctor for specific incontinence supplies 
  • Duration of time supplies are needed for treatment
  • Prior authorization may be required

Incontinence supplies are covered for adults older than 21 years old who are members of the Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS). For Medicaid recipients under 21 years old, incontinence briefs are covered for preventative services. Dispensing of incontinence briefs should not exceed 180 briefs per month, unless written by the prescribing physician that it is medically necessary.
