Vermont Medicaid is a joint state and federal funded insurance program that offers health coverage and long-term care services to low-income adults, children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals living with disabilities. If you are enrolled in a qualifying Vermont Health Connect Medicaid plan, you may be eligible to receive low-cost or free incontinence supplies.

Can I Receive Incontinence Supplies through Vermont Medicaid?

Vermont Medicaid covers incontinence supplies that are medically necessary to assist an individual experiencing loss of bladder or bowel control. These medically necessary items include diapers, briefs, pull-ups, disposable underpads, underwear liners, guards and shields. 

What are the requirements to receive incontinence supplies from Vermont Medicaid?

To receive incontinence supplies from VT Medicaid, you must have the following:

  • A medical condition resulting in incontinence (e.g. hypotonia, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism)
  • A signed prescription from a physician or licensed practitioner stating that incontinence supplies are medically necessary
  • Total number of incontinence products needed to treat condition

Vermont Medicaid will cover incontinence supplies for children 3 years or older. Coverage is limited up to a total of 300 disposable incontinence products for ages 3 and up. Prior authorization is required for dispensing more than the outlined quantity limits. Coverage for children under the age of 3 is limited to 150 per month.

Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) exception: Vermont Medicaid will provide comprehensive services and furnish all Medicaid coverable, appropriate, and medically necessary services needed to correct and ameliorate health conditions for Medicaid members under age 21.
