If you are enrolled in a qualifying MassHealth health plan, you may be eligible to receive low-cost or free incontinence supplies.

Can I Receive Incontinence Supplies through Massachusetts Medicaid?

Massachusetts Medicaid covers incontinence supplies that are medically necessary in the management of urinary and/or fecal incontinence in pediatric, young adult, and older adult persons. These medically necessary items include adult diapers, children’s diapers, pull-ups, disposable underpads, liners, and reusable underwear. 

What are the requirements to receive incontinence supplies from Massachusetts Medicaid?

MassHealth reviews requests for absorbent products on an individual, case-by-case basis. In order to receive incontinence supplies from MA Medicaid, you must have the following:

  • A medical diagnosis resulting in incontinence
  • A signed prescription from a physician (MD), nurse practitioner (NP), or physician assistant (PA)
  • Total number of monthly units, monthly refills, and expected duration of use
  • Completed MassHealth Prescription and Medical Necessity Review Form for Absorbent Products

Massachusetts Medicaid will cover incontinence supplies for children 3 years or older. Prior-authorization (PA) is required for all absorbent products.
