Disposable Bed Pads Basics: How to Use & Where to Buy Underpads

What are chux disposable underpads?

Disposable underpads, also known as chux pads, are protective bed pads for incontinence. They are made for absorbing urinary leaks or catching fecal incontinence spills.

What are bed underpads made of?

Disposable bed underpads are made with non-woven materials that soak up liquids effectively to maintain dryness and reduce odors for maximum comfort. They are designed to protect mattresses and furniture from moderate to heavy incontinence.

What are incontinence bed pads used for?

Disposable bed pads with adhesives are helpful medical supplies that are commonly used in medical care. Bed pads used in hospitals are extremely useful during medical procedures, after childbirth, and managing urinary incontinence. In long-term care facilities and hospitals, incontinence bed pads are used to protect mattresses and furniture from urine damage and reduce linen laundry.

Can underpads be used for postpartum care?

Absolutely! Underpads for postpartum care can be used to catch urinary leaks, as women’s bladder and pelvic muscles tend to be weakened after giving birth.

Are underpads the same thing as puppy training pads?

Yes. Disposable underpads can be used as potty training pads for puppies and dogs with incontinence. A purrfect bed pad purpose!

How to use disposable bed pads?

To use a disposable bed pad, simply place a clean underpad on top of bedding or furniture such as an office chair, sofa, loveseat, recliner, dining chair, or wheelchair. Feel free to use more than one underpad if there is a lot of leakage. The main purpose of bed pads is to keep things dry so use them as needed.

How often should you change incontinence bed pads?

To ensure maximum comfort, change the incontinence bed pad when fully soiled and dispose accordingly. To prevent skin rashes and maintain personal hygiene, it is recommended to change the bed pad as often as possible.

Should disposable underpads be thrown in the trash?

As stated in the product name, disposable underpads are meant to be thrown in the garbage. To dispose, roll up the wet incontinence bed pad and throw it away in a trash bin. Do not rinse or flush underpad down the toilet.

What to do if incontinence bed pads move at night?

Incontinence underpads often come with adhesives to help secure the bed pad in place. Before going to bed, make sure to place a new disposable bed pad and remove the adhesive strip covers from underneath the pads. Then, place the pad onto the bed sheet and press down on the underpad. The underpad should be secure on the bed and should not move.

As you sleep through the night, you may find that moisture build-up can cause the pad to move. In order to prevent finding stains when you wake up in the morning, we recommend placing two or more underpads -- “doubling up” -- to make sure that everything is getting absorbed throughout the night. Only you and/or your caregiver knows how much you leak. It is recommended to use your best judgement.
